How…

How… is the word that starts a lot of conversations in my house! How do you do this question? How does that work? How did that happen? How do I know when this is ready? How long will this take to cook? How long will it take to dry? How come I have to go to bed now? My day is filled with these questions and it got me thinking that mine cannot be the only house like this! All our children are now school age and all get set tasks to complete at home. These vary due to their ages and abilities but one thing is the same no matter what their age and ability they all require help, support, guidance and coaching not only to complete the tasks they have been given but to set them up with the skills needed to become independent and hopefully motivate them to want to learn and try their best – I’m hoping this occurs soon with the oldest!! I have found as they have progressed through the years at school that when it comes to helping with their home work what I’m actually doing is learning it all again myself and subjects and topics I found difficult in school that now, in my 40’s thought I had escaped needing to understand, I am suddenly having to learn again in order to try and explain it! Suddenly I am yet again daunted by science and puzzled by poetry meanings that those feelings of worry and anxiety I had as a teenager can rise up – I find I’m just as nervous waiting to find out if we got it right when their book is marked! One subject I am happy to help with is maths, having enjoyed maths at school and been a maths teacher for a lot of years I know I’m able to this when they ask for help, I’m confident to explain it and know we the right answer. But many aren’t and for them maths is like poetry for me it doesn’t always make sense. This is where this website comes in. We wanted to make a website that helps you to understand maths and helps you to get the questions right. This is still a very new project and over the next few weeks will begin to grow more and more, watch this space!
